Wheelchair Fan Insults Semenya, Temporarily Banned from Stadiums

A supporter who racially insulted Bournemouth player Antoine Semenya at Anfield on Friday has been issued a temporary ban from all UK stadiums, according to police reports today.

The individual, a 47-year-old resident of Liverpool, was watching the game from a wheelchair. He was ejected from the stadium after play was halted and subsequently arrested the following day.

He has since been released from custody but has received a prohibition on attending “any regulated football match in the United Kingdom” and is also barred from coming within 1.6 kilometers of any stadium.

Authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and they are collaborating closely with the club.

The match, in which Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2, was interrupted in the 29th minute after Semenyo reported the abuse from the audience. The Ghanaian winger, who netted both of Bournemouth’s goals, later remarked that the incident would “mark him forever.”

“Not because of one person’s words, but because the entire football community rallied and supported me,” Semenyo shared on social media.
