The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. It emphasized that the atrocities committed during the Jasenovac events were carried out under the authority of the pro-fascist NDH regime, which bears no relation to contemporary Croatia, a nation that itself condemns these acts.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares that the Republic of Croatia seeks to denounce the crimes of the former Yugoslavia, honoring the victims and respecting their families, while recognizing the need for both countries to address their historical delays.” This statement was made by the Montenegrin Ministry, as reported by RTCG.

The Ministry reiterated that it is an undeniable truth that the crimes at the Jasenovac camp were orchestrated by the pro-fascist NDH regime.

“These historical events have no ties to present-day Croatia, which not only denounces these crimes but also fosters a culture of remembrance for all Jasenovac victims and advocates for reconciliation,” the response read.

The Ministry underscored that Montenegro is committed to fostering good neighborly relations and achieving full EU membership, expressing sincere appreciation to the Republic of Croatia for its unwavering and significant support throughout Montenegro’s integration processes.

“Montenegro is dedicated to further nurturing friendly, transparent, and allied relations with the Republic of Croatia, and aims to resolve all bilateral matters of particular concern in a spirit of goodwill. The Ministry once again extends a call for the establishment of a Commission dedicated to these issues,” the announcement concluded.
