“Absolutely, We Embrace the Role of Favorites Against Montenegro”
The challenging September for Montenegro’s qualifying matches is on the horizon. Coach Robert Prosinecki is eagerly waiting for his squad list for the upcoming games against the Czech Republic and Croatia, while the coach of the “fire” team unveiled his lineup today.
Zlatko Dalić has selected the expected players, with Mateo Kovačić, who is still recovering, and Luka Sučić, a Sociedad midfielder whom the coach has not forgiven for leaving the national team during the last campaign for a family wedding, being notable absentees.
Undoubtedly, the standout player is the iconic captain of the national team, Luka Modrić, alongside other key figures like Ivan Perišić, Mario Pašalić, Joško Gvardiol, and Ante Budimir.
Currently, Montenegro and Croatia both hold six points in Group L of the World Cup qualifiers, with Montenegro earning theirs from three matches and Croatia from two.
“We must not let our early success lead to complacency, as we are aware that a single poor performance can jeopardize our ambitions. Therefore, I expect high levels of motivation and determination at this gathering,” Dalić commented.
Robert Prosinečki’s team is set to face the Czech Republic in Podgorica on September 5th, followed by a match against Croatia in Zagreb three days later. Meanwhile, Dalić’s squad will take on the Faroe Islands before meeting our national team.
“While we accept the role of favorites against both the Faroe Islands and Montenegro, it is crucial that we approach both matches with maximum focus to ensure our quality shines through,” Dalić stressed.
For Croatia, qualifying for the World Cup represents a significant challenge after their historic performances in the last two editions.
“Yes, this motivation is particularly strong in the World Cup year. After securing silver in Russia and bronze in Qatar, we are all aware of the honor it is to represent Croatia at the World Cup, and I believe this is the principal goal for all top Croatian footballers this season,” Dalić highlighted.
The upcoming match in Zagreb will mark the first encounter in history between the national teams of Montenegro and Croatia.
