U18 Men’s National Team Competes at the MEVZA League Tournament in Zadar

The Montenegrin men’s U18 national volleyball team will be the first representation of our country in the upcoming MEVZA tournament. Players born in 2006 and later will compete at the Central European Volleyball Zonal Association (MEVZA) event, taking place in Zadar from March 13 to 16. Following today’s draw, our team has learned who their opponents will be in Dalmatia.

Our young athletes are placed in Group A alongside the Croatian team Ribola Kaštele, Hungary’s Kecskemet Junior Sport, and Slovakia’s SŠŠ Voleybal Trenčin. Meanwhile, Group B will feature Czech Brno, Israeli Ramat Aviv, and Hungary’s Penzugi.

In the women’s volleyball tournament, the Croatian teams Olimpik and the CRO team will compete alongside Cypriot teams Lemesos and Apollon Limassol, Czech Olimp from Prague, Hungary’s Bekescsabai, Slovakia’s Nitra, and Israel’s Ramat.

Frane Zanić, the director of the MEVZA league, expressed his excitement about the realization of a club championship at the European level:

“I am thrilled that we have initiated the Club Championship for junior teams from all nine MEVZA member countries, including Montenegro, which will debut at the first tournament in Zadar. I look forward to organizing more such events under the European Volleyball Federation in the future,” said Zanić. He also noted that representatives from European and world volleyball federations will be present and commended Croatia for being an excellent host for this significant competition.

Following the draw, the match schedule was established, with Montenegro set to kick off the tournament against Ribola Kaštela at 11:30 AM. On the first day, they will also face Trenčín. The group stage will conclude the next day with a match against Kecskemet, and the semi-finals will occur on March 16, featuring the top two teams from each group. Thus, Montenegrin players are guaranteed at least four high-quality matches during the tournament.

This marks the inaugural participation of Montenegrin teams in the MEVZA Championship, representing a significant advancement and an excellent opportunity for our young talents to gain international experience and showcase their skills on a regional stage.
