Aleksandar Damjanović, the Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), stated that Sreten Perović’s legacy in culture serves as a lasting foundation for Montenegro.
Academician Sreten Perović passed away yesterday in Podgorica at the age of 93.
“With deep respect for his remarkable achievements, the Democratic Party of Socialists bids farewell to the eminent cultural figure Sreten Perović. His name stands as a symbol of nearly eight decades of relentless and fruitful contributions across various domains. We remember him not only as a multifaceted author but also as an individual who significantly advanced Montenegrin art and its recognition from many positions,” announced Bogdanović.
He remarked that the timeless anthologies, which represent “only a portion of his earlier writings,” are among the most important contributions to the history of Montenegrin literature.
“His influence, spanning the Lexicographic Institute, Pobjeda, Matica Crnogorska, the Duklja Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Montenegrin PEN Center, and the Montenegrin Society of Independent Writers, in addition to numerous literary anthologies and magazines, remains an enduring and essential guide for Montenegro’s culture and art. We will always remember Perović as a dedicated individual to Montenegro, emphasizing the significance of self-awareness, Montenegrin identity, and existence,” the statement articulated.
