Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović expressed her profound sorrow over the loss of academician Sreten Perović, who passed away yesterday at the age of 93. She noted his significant role in preserving and promoting Montenegrin cultural identity.
“With a heavy heart, I share the news of Academician Sreten Perović’s passing, a distinguished cultural figure recognized since 2010. He was a poet, critic, translator, theater scholar, anthologist, and encyclopedist — a man whose impact was felt across all the disciplines he engaged with. As the editor of the ‘Luča’ library and the Encyclopedia of Montenegro, and the founder of various institutions that shaped our cultural landscape, his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Montenegrin cultural identity were immeasurable. His legacy is underscored by his roles as president of the Duklja Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Foreign Member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and an Honorary Member of the International Academy ‘Mihai Eminescu’,” the minister stated.
She emphasized that with Perović’s passing, Montenegro lost a dedicated advocate for language and culture, but his “works that bind and inspire us continue to remain.”
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues,” she concluded.
