Jadran Celebrates in Kotor, Closing in on the Title
The Jadran water polo team celebrated a new championship title on Thursday (19) after defeating Primorac in Kotor (10:8) in the second match of the playoff final, taking a 2:0 lead in the best-of-three series.
The turning point came at the end of the third quarter when Danilo Radović and Jovan Vujović scored to create an 8:6 advantage, which marked the first two-goal lead for Petar Radanović’s side. Primorac managed to cut it down to 8:7 and had a chance to level the score, but Marko Gopčević missed the opportunity. Vasilije Radović then extended the lead to 9:7, sealing the victory.
A thrilling match unfolded in Kotor, with the score tied on five occasions. Primorac initially led with a goal from Filip Gardašević and built a two-goal advantage (3:1) thanks to strikes from Petar Vujošević and Srđan Janović.
Jadran equalized in the second quarter through Pavel Kalturin (3:3) and took their first lead two minutes and 17 seconds before the halftime break when Vasilije Radović scored to make it 5:4.
From that point on, Novljani maintained the lead, concluding the third quarter at 8:6 and successfully preserving the victory in the final quarter.
“It was an exhilarating match. An important win for us. We anticipated it would be tough and were not complacent after our first victory. I think we started hastily and lacked discipline, particularly in our attack. We aim to present our best performance at Škvera,” remarked Jadran’s coach Petar Radanović to RTCG following the match.
Jadran goalkeeper Darko Đurović made several crucial saves throughout the game.
“It feels fantastic to finish the match as we intended. Playing here is challenging, but in the closing stages, we managed to remain calm and keep our two-goal lead. After a slow start, we found our rhythm and earned this win,” Đurović stated.
The standout performer for Jadran was Lazar Vukićević, who netted three goals, while Pavel Kalturin and Vasilije Radović each contributed with two goals.
On the Primorac team, Filip Gardašević was the leading scorer with five goals.
“Every loss is tough, especially this one given that we were in the lead. A few situations changed the game. We need a calm discussion, but I believe we suffered a setback at a critical moment. We will strive to secure at least one victory, even if the series concludes on Thursday,” commented Primorac coach Ranko Perović for RTCG after the match.
