Spain’s Robust Backing for Montenegro’s EU Aspirations

The Spanish government is firmly backing Montenegro’s journey towards European Union (EU) membership, as expressed by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during his discussion with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.
According to a statement from Milatović’s office, the meeting took place at the United Nations Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, reaffirming the strong and friendly ties between Montenegro and Spain along with their commitment to further strengthening these relations.
“Sánchez emphasized Spain’s robust support for Montenegro’s EU aspirations, highlighting Montenegro as a regional leader and a trustworthy partner in the EU accession process,” the statement noted.
Milatović extended his gratitude to Spain for its political, technical, and institutional support, particularly noting the significance of bilateral collaboration.
“Both parties acknowledged the potential for enhancing economic cooperation, which can be more effectively harnessed through joint efforts in the near future,” the statement added.
Milatović reaffirmed Montenegro’s dedication to ongoing reforms and strengthening ties with EU member states, expressing that there is further strategic potential in the partnership with Spain that should be realized.
