Indictment of Stefan Janković Regarding SDT Files

The Special State Prosecutor’s Office has charged Stefan Janković, a suspected member of the Basra cell of the Škalja clan, with forming a criminal organization and committing aggravated murder as a co-perpetrator.

Additionally, the SDT has suggested merging this case with another being heard by the Podgorica High Court, which involves Emil Tuzović, Stefan Đukić Mandić, Goran Miladinović, Milan Brajović, known as Fitilj, Ivan Čarapić, and Milovan Sekulović, all accused of double murder.

The indictment against these individuals was filed in April, with the group being blamed for the murders of two Serbian citizens and members of the rival Kavač clan, Filip Marjanović and Vukašin Gošović.

The SDT posits that these killings were acts of revenge for the murder of Zijad Nurković, a resident of Skalja.

“Both criminal proceedings pertain to the activities of a criminal organization led by the now-deceased MR and AK in the latter half of 2019 in Montenegro. The organization included all the defendants, the late DH, and several unidentified individuals, all with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, aimed at committing murder and aggravated murder, specifically targeting the injured parties FM and VG, who were Serbian citizens and members of a rival criminal organization. This act was driven by vengeful intent for the murder of ZN, a member of their organization and the godfather of the defendant SJ, executed in a brutal manner in the village of Jelenak, in Danilovgrad, within the residence of defendant MB. They went to great lengths to conceal the victims’ remains and eliminate any evidence of the crime,” stated the SDT.

Authorities noted that Janković had previously evaded capture, prompting the Higher Court in Podgorica, acting on the special prosecutor’s recommendation, to order his detention and issue an arrest warrant. The indictment also seeks to have him tried in absentia.

Furthermore, it was suggested that proceedings under both indictments be combined to facilitate a unified trial and a singular verdict, as the criminal activities are interconnected and based on the same evidence.
