“Targeting Journalists Undermines European Values”
The Center for Civic Education (CCE) has stated that European values are upheld by respecting free and professional media, not by attacking journalists.
CCE expressed strong condemnation of the recent allegations made by Democratic MP Boris Bogdanović against certain media outlets.
“Serious accusations, made without any evidence and accompanied by threatening language, pose a risk to freedom of expression and the safety of journalists,” the NGO highlighted.
They expressed particular concern that these attacks originated from a party official with significant influence in the security sector.
“This isn’t the first time high-ranking members of Democratic Montenegro have used their political immunity and institutional authority to issue statements that directly undermine media freedoms,” the statement noted.
The organization pointed out that such remarks have already drawn condemnation from numerous media and freedom of expression organizations, as well as from international entities.
CCE urged Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, a member of the same party, to vigorously and unequivocally uphold media freedom as a fundamental element of democracy, while also safeguarding the Ministry’s operations to date.
“European values are not built by targeting journalists, but by consistently respecting free and professional media,” reiterated CCE.
