Danes Claim Bronze at World Championships for Fourth Time; Swedes Still Searching for Medals Beyond EHF Euro

Two years ago, during the World Handball Championship in Spain, Norway clinched gold, France secured silver, and Denmark took home bronze.

The first requirement for repeating this medal order has been satisfied—Denmark triumphed over Sweden in a packed “Jyske Bank Boxen” in Herning, winning the third-place match 28:27 and earning their fourth bronze at the world championships.

For the Swedish women, this marks their fifth semi-final appearance in a major competition, with two medals from the European Championships in 2010 (silver) and 2014 (bronze). They finished fourth at the world championships for the second time, replicating their performance at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The home team quickly established a four-point lead (5:1) and reached their maximum lead multiple times, the latest being in the 35th minute, at 21:17.

The Swedish “Three Crowns” found a way to rally back with a goal from goalkeeper Johana Bundsen (24:23) in the 50th minute, but several poor decisions from Jamina Roberts and Tyra Aksner, daughter of coach Thomas Aksner, were expertly capitalized on by Denmark, leading them to victory.

Ane-Mette Hansen, Kristina Jergensen, and Mije Hejlund each contributed five goals for the home team, with Hejlund scoring 25 seconds before the end to secure an unassailable 28:26 lead.

On the losing side, Lin Blom and Olivia Melegord both netted seven goals each without a miss.

The much-anticipated final between Norway and France will commence at 19:16. Two years ago, Olivier Krumbolc’s team led 10:29, but Torir Hergeirson’s side emerged victorious, winning convincingly 22:XNUMX.
