The captain, regarded as one of the finest handball players in Montenegro’s history, who has dedicated her career to the blue and white colors, is officially no longer a player for Budućnost as of today.
Milena Raičević and the Podgorica team have mutually agreed to terminate her contract, following the former captain’s request to part ways in light of her upcoming transfer to a different club, as stated by Budućnost Bemax.
“In order not to hinder her future career and endeavors in a new setting, ŽRK Budućnost Bemax has accepted Milena Raičević’s request,” said Budućnost.
Furthermore, they mentioned that Milena is free to seek a new opportunity without any financial obligation to the club, and Budućnost wishes her the best in her future pursuits.
Earlier this month, Budućnost’s Management Board decided to send the 33-year-old Podgorica player to the Rudar branch after she had initiated legal action against the club for unpaid wages from the 2020/21 season during her pregnancy.
Milena accepted this decision and trained with the team under Igor Marković, only to be taken aback when she was omitted from the roster of the Montenegrin national team for the World Championships in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
Selector Bojana Popović, who is also the head coach of Budućnost, clarified that trust had been lost between her and Raičević, to which Milena responded that she was unaware of any issues in their relationship as fellow athletes.
Milena Raičević has been part of Budućnost since 2007, having risen through the ranks, and was instrumental in the club’s golden eras, winning European titles in 2012 and 2015.
Aside from a brief stint with Turkish club Kastamonu in 2021, she has spent her entire club career at Budućnost.
