DPNCG Urges Prosecutor’s Office and Police to Identify and Prosecute Attackers Who Threatened Vijesti and Pobjeda Journalists.

The Association of Professional Journalists of Montenegro (APJM) has urged the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Police Directorate to swiftly identify and take action against those who assaulted and threatened Vijesti and Pobjeda reporters Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević during their assignment in Gornji Zaostar, as announced by the APJM today.

“We highlight the necessity for Police Administration Director Lazar Šćepanović to promptly investigate whether non-uniformed officers were present and, if so, why there was no response. We expect accountability measures to follow accordingly,” stated the association’s president, Mila Radulović.

“We also seek clarity on whether the police recorded the rally; if they did not, we ask why, considering its unique circumstances. This would aid in identifying the assailants and help prevent scenarios similar to that of my colleague Alisa Hajdarpašić from Bijelo Polje, where it emerged that those present intended to ‘assist’ the journalist and evade legal consequences,” she added.

The association firmly stated that they do not condone misdemeanor penalties for those who attack journalists and expect prompt action from both prosecutors and law enforcement.

“As journalists tasked with shaping public opinion and as citizens of this nation, we express our concern over alarming attempts at historical revisionism and honoring criminals. This is evidenced by the fact that proponents of this ideology do not uphold democratic values or media freedoms and are physically confronting reporters,” the statement concluded.
