June showcased Montenegro’s impressive talent yet again, while also highlighting how far the “falcons” have to go to reach greatness.
The month will be remembered for the debut goals by Vasilije Adžić and Andrija Bulatović. However, Montenegro was unable to secure victories against the Czech Republic in the World Cup qualifiers (resulting in a 2:0 loss) or against Armenia in a friendly match (drawing 2:2).
This brings into question whether Robert Prosinecki will remain at the helm of the “Falcons” as the qualifiers commence in September.
“I will discuss this with the Alliance tomorrow, so we’ll see,” Prosinecki informed RTCG.
He expressed pride in Adžić and Bulatović’s performances.
“We should feel good about our debutants; both scored goals, which brings us joy. We hope they will be ready for their next responsibilities and perform well at their clubs,” he said.
When reflecting on the match against Armenia, he noted:
“We faced a strong team, and with many fresh faces, including two debutants, I believe the result is acceptable.”
However, Montenegro struggled defensively once again.
“It’s challenging to explain; we mistakenly passed the ball back to our goalkeeper (Balša Popović) who unfortunately mishandled it, leading to a goal that rattled us early on. We quickly regrouped, turned the tide in the second half, and scored again in a rather odd fashion. Such is football; while everyone is considering breaks, the crucial takeaway is that these young talents were with us, providing depth for the future,” the legendary player explained.
The qualifiers move forward with matches against the Czech Republic and Croatia.
“In September, the upcoming matches will be pivotal,” Prosinecki concluded.
