Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović has strongly denounced the physical attack, threats, and vandalism against photojournalists Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević from Vijesti and Pobjeda, which took place in Gornji Zaostar.

She emphasized that freedom of the press and the safety of journalists are crucial pillars of any democratic society.

“No journalist, photojournalist, or media worker should face threats, physical violence, or confiscation of their equipment simply for performing their duties in a professional manner and keeping the public informed,” stated Vujović.

Vujović pointed out that assaults on journalists are assaults on the citizens’ right to access the truth, fundamentally undermining democracy.

“The state will not tolerate physical attacks or intimidation of media personnel. I have full confidence that the Police Directorate, together with the appropriate prosecutor’s office, will thoroughly investigate this incident, identify, and prosecute those responsible, as indicated by the Police Directorate,” Vujović asserted.

She expressed complete trust in the Police Directorate’s director, who, according to her, has acted fairly, bravely, and decisively in all previous matters, safeguarding public order, citizen safety, and the rule of law.

“The state will persist in its firm approach to preserving cultural heritage and upholding the rights of journalists, resisting any form of pressure. Violence will not be tolerated, and the truth must remain unhidden,” Vujović concluded.
