The working group tasked with developing the Draft Law on Geological Exploration convened to create a legal framework that is both modern and functional, aimed at facilitating more effective planning and execution of geological exploration in alignment with top European practices and standards.

This meeting was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mining, specifically the Directorate for Geology and Mining, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) at their headquarters.

According to the Ministry’s announcement, attendees included representatives from pertinent institutions, specialists in geology and mining, and members of the academic and business sectors.

Marko Vučinić, Acting Director General for Mining, highlighted the significance of geological studies as a critical step in the planning and execution of construction, infrastructure, and mining projects.

“Particular attention was given to the role of research in minimizing geohazard risks, conserving the environment, and enhancing public safety,” the statement indicated.

The draft law will focus on hydrogeological studies, acknowledging the growing importance of water as a strategic asset, as well as on geophysical research, considering Montenegro’s location in a seismically active zone.

“The goal of this law’s passage is to streamline processes, boost transparency, and enhance collaboration between institutions and businesses, all aimed at cultivating a predictable and supportive environment for responsible geological exploration,” stated the Ministry.

Once the Draft Law is finalized, the Ministry of Energy and Mining will facilitate a public hearing to allow all interested parties to provide their insights and feedback.
