The Montenegrin women’s volleyball team has successfully qualified for the European Championship, marking a historic achievement in Montenegrin volleyball history by defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 3:0 in Goražde with one match remaining.

Tonight in Kolašin, celebrations are in full swing. However, Jovo Caković’s squad also has the chance to secure their spot at Eurovolley by claiming victory against Latvia at 19:00.

“We truly hope for a packed hall in Kolašin to welcome these girls, to rally behind them once more, secure that final win, clinch first place in the group, and together celebrate this incredible success,” said Nikola Kažić, president of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, in an interview with TVE.

Kažić reflected on the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“In a venue filled with local supporters, our volleyball team displayed remarkable character and exceptional skill as the visiting team, achieving a 3:0 victory and qualifying for the European Championship against a strong opponent in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

He continued in a similar spirit…

“We started off a bit shaky and fell behind in the first set by even five points, but we rallied back to win that set, dominated the second, and although the third set was close, the girls showcased exceptional character and cohesive team play. It was inspiring to see them remain steady amid the crowd support for the opposing team. This truly represents the pinnacle of Montenegrin women’s volleyball in the 19 years since independence,” Kažić stated.

He expressed confidence that the time had come for the women’s volleyball team to reach the European Championship, as they had anticipated.

“Our announcement wasn’t based on unrealistic expectations, but rather on the quality we demonstrated during that inaugural season and the Golden League two months ago, where we triumphed and competed against top European teams. This was just another significant step, owing to the excellent work from our coach and the remarkable coaching staff, bringing everything together to motivate us to finish the job in that first match, which we fortunately accomplished,” Kažić concluded.
