Mršić Shines as Croatia Breaks into the Top Five
The Montenegro U20 water polo team celebrated its second win at the World Championship in Romania.
Following a triumph over Spain (10:8), our young squad outperformed Croatia in a thrilling match, ending 14:12, thereby securing one of the top two positions and a spot in the quarterfinals.
Petr Radanović’s team only led once in the regular play (2:1), and at the start of the third quarter, the Croats surged to a four-goal lead (7:3)…
When Croatia went ahead 9:4, it appeared the match was settled, but Montenegro fought back with an impressive 5:0 run, featuring goals from Marko Mršić, turning the game around and claiming victory after five challenging matches.
“I’m not content with our performance in the early quarters; we failed to execute our game plan. We drew on our desire and character to level the match, but this style of play cannot continue. I hope that through dialogue we can address these issues, ensuring individuals embrace the team’s dynamics. This victory is significant, demonstrating our character, but we have much to improve,” Radanović emphasized.
Mršić was a standout, scoring six goals during regulation and securing his shots during the penalty shootout, while goalkeeper Ilija Radović made a critical stop against Tonij Mozara.
Montenegro will play its final group match on Monday at 14:00 against Italy.
Earlier, Italy suffered a defeat to Spain, with a close score of 10:9, finishing the first two rounds without a point.
