The president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Danijel Živković, stated that attempts to undermine our politics and party have been made in various ways, predominantly by Belgrade through the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), the media, and the intelligence and security apparatus. Despite these efforts, no one within our party has been swayed from their dedication to defending state interests.

This statement was made during a reception commemorating the 34th Anniversary of the Party.

At the occasion, Živković highlighted that the achievements over the past year reflect an increase in support for DPS policies, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this momentum in the years to come.

“In the last year, elections took place across eight municipalities where approximately 300,000 citizens had the right to vote. Out of these, 176,000 participated, leading to a result of 49,547 votes for the Democratic Party of Socialists, translating to 28.08%. Our results align with regular public opinion studies, which indicate a five-point rise in our ratings compared to two years ago when we were in coalition with the Social Democrats, the Liberal Party, and the Democratic Union of Albanians. I believe that we must bolster our performance further leading up to the parliamentary elections to enhance support for the policies that underpin modern Montenegro,” Živković stated.

The announcement also noted that Živković discussed the outcomes of the milestone tenth Congress held in February this year and the responsibilities ahead for the party.

“Our commitment must remain steadfast because our greatest asset lies in our people, from local committee members to the Party Presidency. We will place a significant focus on strategic communication and analytics moving forward, and I am announcing the launch of a door-to-door campaign this fall, during which we will visit every household in Montenegro. These obligations are crucial as we strive to fortify our political stance against the rising tide of fascism and nationalism we currently observe,” added Živković.

He remarked that all efforts to undermine the DPS have been met with resistance and have failed to produce the anticipated outcomes.

“They sought to dismantle our politics and our party through various means, chiefly orchestrated by Belgrade via the Serbian Orthodox Church, media, and intelligence agencies. Yet, they have not succeeded in persuading anyone within our ranks to step back from the frontline of state interest defense. There are no divisions among us; we stand united in our commitment to gaining the trust of voters in the Democratic Party of Socialists. If our support is at 28 percent today, we must do everything we can to enhance this advantage in the next elections and push this government into opposition, as it is the only remedy for the current crisis in Montenegro. I firmly believe in this vision and aim, and there is no doubt that the DPS will take on the mantle of socio-political responsibility sooner than we anticipate.
