Red Star Celebrates Third Straight Victory, Alba Falls in Berlin

Red Star’s basketball team triumphed over Alba with a score of 77:71 (15:13, 25:22, 19:20, 18:16) in Berlin during the 26th round of the Euroleague, marking their third consecutive victory in the league.

Leading the scoring for Red Star were Filip Petrushev with 17 points, and Ajzea Kenan with 11 points. Ognjen Dobrić contributed nine points along with three steals, while Nikola Kalinic and Jago dos Santos each added eight points and five assists.

For Alba, David McCormack was the standout performer, logging 19 points and 18 rebounds in just 11 minutes of play. Matteo Spagnolo and Matt Thomas each netted 15 points, while Malte Delou chipped in with nine points.

Both teams opened the game with solid defense, with Alba briefly leading 5:4 after three minutes, courtesy of Matt Thomas’s three-pointer.

As the first quarter progressed, both teams struggled offensively. Red Star regained the lead at 10:9 with a three-pointer from Nemanja Nedović and held a 12:11 advantage with two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

Concluding the first quarter, Red Star was ahead 15:13, thanks to Ajzea Kenan’s three-pointer, while Alba experienced nine turnovers in the period.

The second quarter started poorly for Red Star, who committed two offensive fouls. Alba capitalized on this, leveling the score at 22 with McCormack’s 22nd point after five minutes.

McCormack continued to be a focal point for Alba. However, with excellent teamwork, Red Star surged ahead 32:28 with three minutes left in the half, highlighted by a three-pointer from Ognjen Dobrić and a mid-range jumper from Rokas Gedraitis.

As the second quarter progressed at a frenetic pace, Red Star went into halftime leading 40:35, bolstered by successive baskets in the paint. McCormack achieved a double-double by halftime, accumulating 16 points and 16 rebounds in 11 minutes.

Red Star started the third quarter strongly on both ends of the floor, quickly extending their lead to 44:35 after a minute.

Alba soon found their rhythm, tying the game at 45:45 three minutes into the third quarter, thanks to three-pointers from Malte Delou and Thomas, as well as free throws from Eliaas Rapike.

The quarter was further complicated for Alba when McCormack picked up his fifth foul, leading to his ejection. Despite several missed free throws, Red Star closed the third quarter with a 59:55 advantage.

Alba’s strong offensive play saw them take a 62:61 lead early in the final quarter.

Jago dos Santos was pivotal for Red Star, scoring six points and delivering his fifth assist, which helped the team establish a 69:64 lead with six minutes left. They maintained a seven-point cushion at 75:68 with two minutes to go, eventually sealing the win at 77:71 through determined play in the closing moments.

Red Star now holds a record of 16 wins and 10 losses, while Alba stands at 4 wins and 22 losses. The Euroleague will pause for national cup competitions, with Red Star’s next game on February 27 against Zalgiris in Belgrade, while Alba faces Efes in Istanbul the following day.

In another match, Panathinaikos triumphed over Athens Efes 104:89 (17:21, 32:26, 26:26, 29:16).

Kendrick Nunn shone for Panathinaikos with 36 points, while Jedi Osman added 20 points.

Darius Thompson led Efes with 14 points, supported by Jordan Nwora and Rodrigo Bubuo with 13 points each, and Dan Oturu contributing 11 points.

Panathinaikos currently ranks fourth with 16 wins and 10 losses, while Efes is in 12th place with 12 wins and 14 losses.

Looking ahead, Panathinaikos will host Asvel in Lyon, while Efes will welcome Alba to Istanbul.

Fenerbahçe secured a win against Real Madrid with a score of 78:67 (16:16, 24:12, 18:19, 20:20) at home in Istanbul. Nigel Hayes-Davies led Fenerbahçe with 20 points, followed by Eric McCollum with 19 points.

Real was only able to see Facundo Campazzo reach double figures, finishing with 11 points.

Fenerbahçe occupies second place with 17 wins and 8 losses, whereas Real Madrid is 11th with 13 wins and 13 losses.

In the upcoming round, Fenerbahçe will host Maccabi in Belgrade, while Real Madrid will face Barcelona.
