Detention of Vesić, Momirović, and Additional Suspects in Railway Reconstruction Investigation
The Higher Court in Belgrade has imposed a 30-day detention on 13 individuals, including former Serbian ministers Goran Vesić and Tomislav Momirović, in connection with the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station and the modernization of the Novi Sad – Kelebija railway line, as reported by N1 and confirmed by the court.
The suspects have a three-day window to appeal the ruling, according to the High Court.
Yesterday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (TOK) in Serbia revealed that 12 suspects were interrogated, including former Transport Minister Tomislav Momirović, former Assistant Minister of Transport Anita Dimovski, and former Director of Serbian Railway Infrastructure Nebojša Šurlan, all of whom denied any wrongdoing.
Former minister Goran Vesić was not questioned by TOK due to medical documentation indicating he was receiving hospital treatment. According to unofficial reports by N1, he is detained on two counts: possible witness tampering and public disturbance.
Additionally, the prosecutor sought a detention order and arrest warrant for Goran Rosić, who is associated with “Teco” doo.
The individuals mentioned are suspects in an investigation conducted by the Financial Flows Investigation Task Force regarding the project for Modernization and Reconstruction of the Hungarian-Serbian Railway Line from Novi Sad to Subotica and the State Border (Kelebija). TOK has previously stated that they are believed to have, through the signing of Annex 1 to the Commercial Agreement, Agreement 1, and Annexes 2, 3, 4, and 1.214.100.460,43, facilitated the contractor CRIC – CCCC in invoicing the financier and investor for the total project expenses amounting to $64,258,060, as well as undertaking additional work that warrants subsequent payment of $X.
“As a result, they secured a financial benefit for the contractor CRIC – CCCC, valued at a minimum of $18,759,287, while inflicting a loss on the budget of the Republic of Serbia amounting to $115,558,520.43, reflecting the gap between the expected financial commitments for the Republic of Serbia’s budget and the contractual price stipulated in the Commercial Contract,” stated TOK following the arrests.
