The final uncertainty before the championship in Vienna has been resolved—the Danish handball team triumphed over the Netherlands in a direct clash (30:26), securing their spot in the semi-finals of the European Championship.

Ana Mete Hansen and her teammates now join Norway, Hungary, and France in the top four, as they prepare to compete in the grand finale on Friday.

Remarkably, these four teams, alongside Montenegro, are the only ones in history to have won the European Championship. Norway holds the title nine times, Denmark three, while France, Hungary, and Montenegro have each won the championship once.

Hansen was instrumental in leading the Danes to victory, netting seven goals, followed closely by Helena Hagese, Trine Jensen Estegord, and Mihala Meler, each contributing four goals.

Dion Hušer delivered an outstanding performance for the Netherlands, scoring ten goals without a miss, as they now look ahead to compete for fifth place against Sweden in Vienna.

Earlier today, Germany decisively defeated Dragan Adžić’s Slovenia (35:16), finishing in seventh place at the EHF Euro, which leaves Montenegro in eighth place overall in the continental championship.

The “lionesses” have had a lower ranking in the European championships of 2016 and 2018, finishing in 13th and 9th places, respectively, while achieving eighth place in 2020. They secured a bronze medal in the previous championship.
