With just ten days remaining before the opening match of the European Championship in Germany, Montenegrin handball coach Vlado Šola has finalized a list of 18 players who will compete in Group C in Munich. One player will ultimately be dropped, as the intention is to send 17 handball players to Bavaria.
From the original 21-player roster, three players have been cut: goalkeeper Filip Borozan, center back Stevan Vujović, and pivot Miodrag Ćorsović.
Vujović made his return to the national team for the first time since the World Cup in Poland and Sweden, but it seems he was unable to impress the Croatian coach enough to earn another opportunity.
Ćorsović was also deemed surplus to requirements before last year’s World Cup but was eventually called up to replace the injured Nemanja Grbović. Additionally, goalkeeper Lovćen made his sole appearance for the national team on December 29 against North Macedonia.
This Thursday and Friday, the Lions will face their final challengers in Croatia and Slovenia at the Croatia Cup tournament in Poreč, and Šola plans to resolve the selection dilemma before their travel tomorrow.
Borozan, Vujović, and Ćorsović will remain on the reserve list and can be recalled if any player sustains an injury.
The confirmed squad includes goalkeepers Nebojša Simić, Nikola Matović, and Haris Suljević; wings Miloš Vujović, Aleksandar Bakić, Mirko Radović, and Luka Radović; pivots Vuk Lazović and Nemanja Grbović; and guards Radojica Čepić, Božo Anđelić, Vasilije Kaluđerović, Miloš Božović, Arsenije Dragašević, Vuko Borozan, Branko Vujović, Stefan Čavor, and Risto Vujačić.
The national team will return to Montenegro on January 6, followed by a trip to Munich, where Mirko Radović and his teammates will compete in Group C from January 12 to 16.
They will face Hungary, Iceland, and Serbia for the two spots that lead into the main round.
