In his seventh match as coach of Montenegro, Vlado Šola faced his fifth defeat, with more than half of those losses coming against Slovenia. Following March’s defeats of 32:29 and 37:30 in the qualifiers for the European Championship, the “lions” were edged by Slovenia once again in their final test before heading to the championship in Germany, ending the match at 37:32.
The contest at the “Croatia Cup” in Poreč had no bearing on the overall standings, prompting the Croatian coach to make some rotations compared to the previous day’s matchup against Croatia.
In contrast to the earlier encounter, which remained uncertain until the final moments, the outcome of this match began to take shape by halftime.
Although Montenegro held the lead on several occasions, Slovenia took control midway through the first half, leading by four points at the break (19:15). In the latter half, their victory was never in doubt.
Due to minor injuries, both right wings—captain Mirko Radović and Luka—were rested, allowing guard Risto Vujačić to step into that role.
All players were given an opportunity to contribute, with the standout performance coming from the goalkeepers who alternated halves—Nebojša Simić recorded eight saves, while Nikola Matović added seven.
Leading the score sheet were Vuko Borozan and Vuk Lazović, each netting five goals, followed by Božo Anđelić with four. Aleksandar Bakić, Miloš Vujović, Stefan Čavor, and Nemanja Grbović each scored three, while both Vujačić and Radojica Čepić contributed two. Branko Vujović and Miloš Božović rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
On the victorious side, Aleks Vlah was the top scorer with seven goals, while Miljan Vujović from Cetinje managed to save one out of 11 shots from his unsuspecting teammates.
