Ex-Saltworks Employees Persist in Protesting, Blocking Ulcinj’s Main Road

Former employees of the “Bajo Sekulić” saltworks have once again blocked the main Ulcinj-Bar road at the entrance to Ulcinj near “Kips,” this morning at 11:00 am.

This marks the fourth instance of workers blocking this crucial roadway and the third time they have maintained the blockade for two hours.

Authorities have alerted both citizens and tourists regarding the blockage, with traffic officers redirecting drivers to alternate routes through Valdanos and Totoš.

The unanimous decision to impede city traffic in protest of overdue wages and contributions was reached by the workers during a meeting on May 4th, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of reorganized bankruptcy in the oldest company in Ulcinj.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the initial duration of the roadblocks would be one hour.

The bankruptcy administration currently owes the workers approximately 900,000 euros in unpaid wages and contributions, dating back about five and a half years.

Solana has been in programmed bankruptcy since 2005 and entered classical bankruptcy in 2011.

The last harvest of salt occurred in 2013.
