The European Union has announced an additional allocation of 15 million euros to bolster the defensive capacities of the Albanian Armed Forces.
This latest aid measure, approved today by the EU Council, raises the total support to Albania to 28 million euros.
According to the EU Council’s statement, this funding will enhance Albania’s ability to engage in operations and missions under the EU Common Security and Defense Policy, as well as in international coalitions.
The first bilateral assistance initiative, amounting to 13 million euros, was established in July 2024 under the European Peace Facility to support the Albanian Armed Forces.
“Albania has consistently been a close partner of the EU in terms of foreign and security policy, contributing to EU operations and standing as a NATO ally. Enhancing security and defense cooperation with Albania directly bolsters European stability, security, and peace,” stated Kaja Kalas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Through this European Peace Facility measure, the EU will equip the Albanian Armed Forces with light armored multi-purpose vehicles, tactical and engineering vehicles, along with operational and maintenance training.
The European Peace Facility was created in March 2021 to fund actions under the Common Foreign and Security Policy aimed at conflict prevention, peace preservation, and enhancement of international security and stability.
