Disappointing Defense: The Players Could Have Delivered So Much More

In an unfortunate turn of events, Buducnost Bemax’s handball players set a new negative record, likely delivering their worst performance in the club’s Champions League history.
The team faced a staggering defeat against ĆSM Bucharest in Romania, losing 44:26—the most goals ever conceded in a match, and the minus 18 defeat (which they previously experienced this season against Djer) marks the most overwhelming loss in their history.
“Our defense was horrendous; we let in far too many goals. We need to focus on that aspect, as we allowed several easy scoring opportunities,” Bojana Popović remarked post-match.
With the talented Kristina Neagu leading the charge, ĆSM is recognized as one of Europe’s elite teams. However, this should not serve as an excuse for the loss.
“We anticipated it would be a tough challenge due to ĆSM Bucharest’s formidable roster, but the energy and competitiveness displayed by my team were lacking. I’m disheartened because I believe the players are capable of much more. We have to work diligently to rectify these errors and strive for improvement in future matches,” added Bojana, the head of the professional coaching staff for the “Blues.”
This was Budućnost’s first match after a 50-day hiatus due to the World Cup.
“ĆSM played exceptionally well, but we weren’t adequately prepared, having been away for so long because of the World Cup, and we had only a few training sessions together. That was evident on the field, as there was a noticeable lack of team cohesion,” Bojana concluded.
Kalidijatu Nijakate was the lone bright spot for Montenegro, scoring six goals.
“We didn’t demonstrate the level of fight we are capable of. We understood that this was a challenging away game; however, today we lacked grit, particularly in defense. We needed to perform much better and provide support for the goalkeepers. I am confident we will fare better next weekend against Debrecen,” Nijakate expressed.
