Over 74,000 electronic cigarette components and flavored oils were confiscated during a Border Police operation, which resulted in the arrest of SR (40) from Plužine.
“As part of their ongoing efforts to identify, prevent, and combat all forms of cross-border crime and illicit trading, officers from the Border Police Sector seized 74,356 items, valued at approximately 315,702 euros, during a planned control operation. Additionally, a resident of Plužine was taken into custody,” reported the Police Directorate.
Their officers from the Mobile Unit of the Regional Border Police Center “Centar” intercepted and examined a “Mitsubishi” vehicle with Danilovgrad license plates, which was towing an unregistered trailer, traveling from the Lisina area toward Plužine, driven by SR from Plužine.
“A search of the trailer’s cargo area revealed 104 packages containing 15,750 WIIP brand electronic cigarette attachments and 58,606 pieces of aromatic oils for electronic cigarettes of the same brand, for which the individual lacked the necessary documentation. In collaboration with Customs Administration officials, the goods were inventoried and customs officers appraised the retail value of the confiscated items at 315,702 euros,” the statement continued.
Furthermore, following an order from the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić, information was gathered from SR.
“As a result, he was taken into custody on suspicion of committing the offense of illicit trade.”
The acting prosecutor has ordered SR to be held for up to 72 hours.
The Border Police Department emphasizes that its officers will continue their rigorous efforts to combat all forms of cross-border crime, the shadow economy, and criminal activities that adversely affect Montenegro’s economic and social interests.
