A 42-year-old man (DR) from Novi Sad has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his partner, AV, in her home in Danilovgrad. Medical professionals are currently fighting for her life, as reported by the Police Directorate.
He faces charges of domestic violence leading to serious bodily harm, as well as facilitating narcotic drug use to the detriment of AV.
Additionally, the police plan to file a request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings against him for neglecting his partner’s child.
According to the Police Directorate, the Danilovgrad Security Department was alerted yesterday by staff from the Hospital for the Prevention of Violence. They reported that AV was being transported from her family home to the Emergency Unit of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, unconscious and suffering from significant physical injuries.
“A medical examination revealed severe injuries to AV’s head and chest, placing her in a life-threatening condition,” stated the police.
The officers promptly notified the state prosecutor and conducted an investigation at the scene, implementing further criminal, tactical, and forensic measures:
“Through fieldwork, the police from the Danilovgrad Security Department quickly identified the suspect, DR (42), a Serbian citizen and emotional partner of AV. Following a search, he was located in the Podgorica municipality with the help of the Podgorica Security Department. During the investigation, the suspect exhibited visible injuries, as documented by a specialist doctor.”
“It is suspected that DR previously brought alcohol and handmade cigarettes containing marijuana to AV’s home. After consuming these substances together, an argument escalated into a physical altercation, where DR inflicted life-threatening injuries upon AV. After realizing she was unconscious, he fled the scene, leaving AV’s minor child unattended,” the Police Directorate reported.
The suspect has been questioned at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, which has ordered his detention for up to 72 hours.
“The suspect allowed his emotional partner to consume marijuana, and while both were drunk, he caused serious bodily harm by squeezing her neck and striking her,” announced the Podgorica State Criminal Police Office, stating that DR has been remanded in custody.
