Budva Kicks Off First Volleyball Tournament as Budućnost Team Departs from Podgorica
The Central European Volleyball League is gearing up for its 20th season, and this jubilee marks the debut of Montenegrin teams in the MEVZA League competition.
In the men’s division, our representation will come from the top two teams in the EPCG Super League – the champion Budva and the runner-up Budućnost. Additionally, the Podgorica team will compete in the women’s division.
There will be seven teams in the men’s competition: alongside our representatives, Croatian teams Mladost Zagreb and Mursa Osijek, Slovenian Maribor, Austrian Zadruga, and Hungarian Alba will also participate.
In the women’s competition, the Budućnost volleyball team will face competition from Zagreb’s Mladost and Dinamo, Slovenian Branik, Cypriot Lemasos, and Israeli Hapoel Kfar Saba.
Both competitions will consist of tournaments held over three “windows,” culminating in the final four tournaments scheduled for March 3-5, 2026, in the women’s league and March 17-19 for the men’s league.
The first two volleyball tournaments are planned for September 30 to October 2, taking place in Budva and Osijek.
On the Montenegrin coast, Budva will host Alba and Maribor. The third and fourth tournaments are set for December 16-18, during which Budva will play against Alba and Zadruga in Bleiburg, Austria, while Budućnost will face Mursa and Mladost in Maribor, alongside the host team. The final two tournaments will occur in Podgorica and Zagreb from January 13-15, 2026.
Budućnost will hold matches against Zadruga and Maribor, while Budva competes against Mladost, Mursa, and Alba in the Croatian capital. The top four teams in the standings will move forward to the semi-finals.
For the Budućnost volleyball team, this will mark their first appearance in the MEVZA League in front of their home fans. They will host Lemasos and Hapoel Kfar Saba during the tournament in Podgorica, also taking part in matches in Zagreb within that timeframe.
The following three tournaments are planned to be held either in Maribor or in the Croatian capital, which will be confirmed at a later date. Budućnost will wrap up the regional league competition from December 16-18, competing against Mladost, Dinamo, and Maribor.
The host for the Final Four tournament will be announced after the season’s second stop in December 2025. The first-place team will face the fourth-place team, while the semi-final pairings will be filled by the second and third place teams from the standings.
