We Support the Parliamentary Majority’s Move to Revert Ulcinj Saltworks to State Ownership

The leader of the Civic Movement URA, Dritan Abazović, addressed the Administrative Court’s ruling to revert the Ulcinj Saltworks back to Eurofund, urging the governing coalition to avoid returning to the former practices of the DPS and to reestablish ownership of the Saltworks alongside his party.

“This is a vast area—15 million square meters—encompassing wetlands, administrative facilities, and swimming pools… It holds an estimated value of at least 200 million euros. After considerable efforts by the previous government, the Administrative Court aims to revert matters to their old ways. We will do everything possible to oppose the tycoons,” Abazović stated during a press conference in the Parliament of Montenegro.

He expressed pride in the previous government he led, asserting that they successfully returned the Saltworks to state ownership.

“I want to emphasize that the Eurofond tycoons, especially Vesko Barović, acquired the Saltworks for a mere 5 cents per square meter. If they believed that the Privatization Council would lead to them gaining the land, I assure you it won’t happen. Together with the former German ambassador Steinacker, we thwarted this,” Abazović noted.

The leader of GP URA remarked that while it’s not his place to comment on judicial decisions, his party will not remain silent regarding what he termed the “dismemberment of the state and its identity.”

“If anyone assumes that their connections allow them to act with impunity, we have set a new standard. Let’s proceed; we will pursue legal action,” he concluded.
