A year ago today, Stevan Jovetić celebrated the culmination of his remarkable journey — as he described the Conference League final between Olympiacos and Fiorentina — with a triumphant conclusion.
After a series of goals and unforgettable moments, the Montenegro captain secured his first European championship, marking Olympiacos’ inaugural title in UEFA competitions.
Jovetić bid farewell to the “red and whites” following the final hosted in Athens. He now proudly represents Omonia from Cyprus, but Olympiacos has fondly remembered his inspiring words addressed to his teammates before the historic final held in the territory of fierce rival AEK.
Exactly one year post his Conference League victory, the Piraeus club revisited Jovetić’s motivating message, with his former teammates, captain Kostas Fortunis and Ayoub El Kaabi — who became the hero of the final — joining in the reflection.
“Firstly, I want to congratulate you all on the remarkable effort and season we’ve had,” Jovetić started, followed by:
“What I love most about the last three or four months? I see a true team. Five months ago, we weren’t a cohesive unit, as you all know. Now, I see players who support one another, even when not on the field, celebrating like mad when we score. Today, more than ever, it’s about the team. Enjoy this… and let’s bring home that trophy.”
Jovetić played the final twenty minutes of regulation and extra time, and it was his crucial goals that helped turn the tide against Maccabi in the unforgettable round of 16, and also in the quarterfinals against Fenerbahçe.
