Students and citizens in Serbia have concluded a one-day blockade of the Freedom Bridge in Novi Sad.

The blockade was initially planned to last for 24 hours, concluding at 15:00 PM, but during today’s civic plenum in Novi Sad, a unanimous vote extended the duration by an additional three hours, ending at 18:00 PM.

Addressing a crowd of tens of thousands, a student representative stated that all decisions are made democratically at student plenums.

He called upon citizens in attendance to indicate their support for the extension of the bridge blockade by raising their hands, which they did in unison.

When asked if anyone opposed the extension, not a single hand was raised, as reported by the Beta news agency.

The crowd responded with chants of “Students, students,” accompanied by the sound of whistles and trumpets.

It was explained that the additional three hours of blockade would be utilized to clean the area surrounding the Freedom Bridge and the nearby Limanski Park of any leftover litter.

“We will not cease our actions until the students’ demands are fulfilled,” stated a security guard addressing the gathered students and citizens, according to N1.

Spider-Man “helps” tired students

Some individuals have devised creative ways to assist the fatigued students.

A man dressed as Spider-Man provided complimentary massage services to students involved in the blockade at the Freedom Bridge in Novi Sad, as reported by N1.

He set up a bench with a sign that read: “Only a student’s grip saves. Enjoy a free five-minute massage and manual therapy.”

The Assembly of the Serbian Bar Association voted for a one-month suspension of work

The Serbian Bar Association (AKS) Assembly has voted today to suspend operations for thirty days, confirmed lawyer Vladimir Terzić to the Beta agency on February 2.

“Thirty days of suspension with a strict regime, addressing only preclusive deadlines, was proposed by the Sabac Bar Association,” Terzić informed the Beta agency.

He mentioned that the AKS Board of Directors will decide when the suspension will commence.

Second day of blockade

The blockade of the Freedom Bridge in Novi Sad has reached its second day, with some students, professors, and citizens staying overnight at the approaches to the bridge and in the adjacent Limanski Park, despite the cold.

The blockade was set to continue until 15:00, coinciding with an open-air citizens’ plenum. Increased crowds gathered near the Freedom Bridge, prominently displaying the banner “It’s over when the student says it.”

Students, professors, and citizens cleaned up the litter accumulated during the previous day’s protests and blockades in Novi Sad, which saw attendance from tens of thousands.

Citizens have been preparing meals for students and hot drinks since early morning.

The planned program is being hosted from a stage near the Oil Industry of Serbia building, with students conducting a live broadcast available to follow HERE.

It was announced that at around 13:00, more than 200 taxis from Belgrade and other cities will head to Novi Sad to transport students back home after the Freedom Bridge blockade ends, especially for those who walked from Belgrade.

“We are parents, each of us has a student. Our little ones mean everything to them; it’s our duty,” commented one taxi driver.

The driver also noted that they had assisted students the previous day, helping return those who suffered blisters and injuries from walking long distances.

The blockade of the Freedom Bridge began yesterday at 15:18, coinciding with the blockage of the Žeželjev and Varadin bridges, and continued until 18:00 when citizens shifted from those locations to the Freedom Bridge.

Dozens of tractor drivers and thousands of motorcyclists participated in the blockade.
