One Step Closer to Justice for Former Textile and Leather Industry Workers

The head of the URA parliamentary group, Miloš Konatar, expressed his hope for unanimous support from all MPs in the Parliament, irrespective of their political affiliations. This statement follows the approval by the Legislative Committee for the amendments he and URA MP, Filip Adžić, proposed.

Konatar noted that these changes aim to rectify past injustices faced by former employees in Montenegro’s textile and leather sectors.

“The proposal ensures fair compensation for workers who, during the unfortunate ‘transit’ times marked by bankruptcy, either lost their jobs or faced reduced pensions due to early retirement, leaving them without financial support from social programs,” he stated.

He emphasized that in 2021, the Civic Movement URA assisted former workers in metal processing and mining, and now it is time to extend that support to those in the wood processing, forestry, textile, and leather industries.

“I anticipate the backing of all MPs for these proposals in Parliament, regardless of their position in government or opposition. Tomorrow, our proposal will be reviewed by the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget, and subsequently presented at the plenary session of Parliament. I look forward to positive outcomes for these marginalized workers—now, it rests with the MPs,” Konatar concluded.
