Vučić Invites the University of Belgrade’s Rector’s College to Engage in Dialogue

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has urged the Rector’s Board of the University of Belgrade to initiate a dialogue on Wednesday aimed at resolving the ongoing blockade of teaching at higher education institutions.

He highlighted that this dialogue is essential not only for the youth but for the entire society, according to the Radio Television of Serbia Portal.

Vučić called on the Rectors’ Board, along with other relevant institutions and representatives of the academic community, to engage in discussions to address the current situation where classes remain disrupted.

The President noted that the ongoing blockades have resulted in the suspension of lectures, exercises, exams, and other forms of teaching at higher education institutions.

“Acknowledging that the Extended Rector’s Board supported the current student protests in their December 10 statement, I’m confident that you recognize this situation harms not just the educational process and students in the long run, but also the advancement of education, science, and society as a whole,” said Vučić.

He added that if students and professors feel their demands have not been fully addressed, it is vital to open a dialogue about these concerns, along with other issues impacting the resolution of the current situation.

“I believe that through dialogue we can determine whether the students’ requests have been sufficiently met and identify the necessary actions to ensure these demands are fulfilled as expected,” Vučić stated.

He reinforced that the appropriate institutions stand ready to work tirelessly to meet all student requests.

“I anticipate your response to my call, which aims to benefit the University, its students and professors, as well as the entire citizenry and the state, while respecting everyone’s right to voice their opinions on matters of public and social significance,” Vučić concluded.
