“Every Match Matters for a Growing Team”

Even after a decade, reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship continues to be a dream for Montenegrin water polo players. Greece maintained composure in the final moments, combining skill with a bit of luck, as Dimitrios Skubakis scored the decisive goal (10:9)…

The “Sharks” now aim to secure a position from 5th to 8th place in Fukuoka, which holds its significance. Their first opponent will be Italy, scheduled for Thursday at seven o’clock in our time zone.

“Despite the loss to Greece, we are all eager to regroup, bounce back, and finish the tournament on a high note while also securing a visa for the next event in Doha at this World Championship,” stated young Vasilije Radović.

To earn a visa for Doha, Montenegro must triumph in both playoff matches, as the semi-finalists from this tournament — Serbia, Hungary, Greece, and Spain — alongside Italy (the World Cup finalist), have already qualified for Qatar.

Radović once again reflected on the quarter-final battle against Greece.

“We faced a tough match, and I would say we were just a bit short on luck. The team performed excellently, and we fought valiantly. Unfortunately, in sports, luck wasn’t in our favor this time,” Radović remarked.

Vladimir Gojković’s players need to shake off the quarter-final setback quickly.

“Recovering from such an intense match isn’t easy, especially mentally. We truly gave it our all but were just a bit unlucky…” commented center Vladan Spaić.

The team’s motivation shouldn’t waver, even when it comes to the championship’s conclusion.

“For a growing team, every match is vital, including this one, even if it’s just for the 5th to 8th place. We need to recharge, give our all, and aim for victory,” Spaić emphasized.

He believes their opponent will also be striving for success.

“Italy won’t abandon their style — aggressive and fast-paced. We need to match that intensity, keep the game balanced, remain calm, and reach the finish in our favor. Italy will be as determined to win as we are,” Spaić concluded.
