The Bijelo Polje Protection and Rescue Service experienced a heightened level of activity during the holidays, responding to fires and providing water deliveries to mountainous and rural regions.
On Saturday, a fire in the Kasevar area was successfully extinguished, followed by numerous interventions on Sunday. In Bistrica, teams managed to contain a burning meadow, preventing it from reaching nearby residences. Additionally, they responded to a traffic accident in Lješnica, as well as to a fire at the “Coca-Cola” warehouse where crates and pallets were ablaze.
“On Sunday, we tackled a forest fire in the Ćampara area while concurrently delivering water to cisterns on Bjelasica for household use. Water was also distributed to Trumbarine. Several low vegetation fires occurred along the railway in Malo Polje,” reported Edin Kolić, the service’s commander.
As previously noted, Monday was particularly challenging for the Bijelo Polje firefighters.
“A significant fire ignited in the Mala Voda area, affecting a coniferous forest. Fortunately, a prompt response helped save the Damjanović family’s house and katun. A forest fire also occurred in Potrak, where serious damage was averted, preserving residential properties,” Kolić explained.
A severe fire erupted in the Fuštićka Ograde area, resulting in a lengthy firefight lasting over 12 hours to protect two threatened homes.
In Klanac, low vegetation blazed dangerously close to gas cylinders, heightening the risk.
“On both Monday and Tuesday, our service was occupied delivering water to various villages: Korita and Susića each received two deliveries for household and livestock needs, with additional distributions made to Zaton, Borovac (cemetery), and Babica Brijeg,” Kolić added, noting that firefighters remain active in the Šljemen area today, extinguishing fires in the forest belt.
The Protection and Rescue Service urges residents to exercise caution during the summer months, avoiding outdoor fires and reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities.
