A different ambiance infused with similar determination – Montenegro’s elite volleyball players are currently training in Kolašin for the crucial final phase of the European Championship qualifiers, following over a month of preparation in Podgorica at the “Voco” hotel and Verde sports center during May and June.
While the serene mountain backdrop and the familiar benefits of the traditional training base at the “Bjanka” hotel remain constants, the significant addition of Danijela Džaković to Jovo Caković’s squad enhances Montenegro’s prospects in their pursuit of Eurovolley qualification.
Montenegro is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Goražde on August 6, followed by a home match against Latvia in Kolašin. Though the path to victory may seem complex, it remains straightforward – two wins will secure our team’s place in the finals.
Revitalized and brimming with enthusiasm, the beloved Daca returns after a successful season in Azerbaijan, accompanied by a much-needed respite.
In Kolašin, she encountered familiar faces as well as newcomers, all thriving under a structured training regimen.
“The presence of numerous young talents here brings a fresh and optimistic vibe, while the new coaching staff maintains a serious approach. The hiring of Jovo Caković, a highly-respected and successful coach, along with Tijana Avramović (Malešević), is crucial, and we must leverage this opportunity. I emphasize the importance for younger players to absorb every piece of advice and fully engage in training,” remarks Danijela Džaković.
She firmly believes Montenegro possesses the quality required to qualify for the European Championship.
“While we shouldn’t underestimate or overestimate our opponents, it’s clear that both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Latvia will pose challenges. However, I have faith in our abilities to outperform them. We need to concentrate, step onto the court, and showcase our talent to secure a spot in the European Championship.”
The experience gained in the CEV Golden League bears significant importance as Montenegro approaches the qualifiers’ conclusion.
Achieving one win against Azerbaijan and successfully navigating a tough competition is vital for debuting against robust national teams. Notably, we even took a set from Hungary, a team that competed in the Golden League final (where they lost to Ukraine). These are indicators of our growth, and I am confident that the lessons learned from the Golden League will translate into improved performances and further victories,” Danijela states.
Fortunately, there remains ample time to secure victories – particularly when it matters most, during the qualifiers. With Danijela Džaković, who has donned the national team’s jersey for 17 years, the outlook is promising.
“I believe the girls will develop an increased sense of assurance. With Nikoleta (Perović) and myself, alongside Meli (Melisa Cenović) and other younger teammates, we have a solid foundation and camaraderie. Overall, we are a team destined to grow, and I am confident in that,” she concludes.
Before the qualifiers wrap up, Montenegro will engage in two friendly matches against Hungary.
“This is a team that reached the Golden League final, and competing against such a high-caliber opponent will undoubtedly benefit us – I regard these matches as a continuation of our Golden League experience, facilitating better preparation for our upcoming contests against BiH and Latvia.”
Danijela concluded her season in Azerbaijan with flair – excelling as a forward/receiver for the Mili Aviasia Akademiasi (National Aviation Academy) team and earning accolades for her performance in the Super League.
This success came despite battling a lingering foot injury for an extended period.
“I dealt with an uncomfortable injury for two months, but I have fully recovered and managed to contribute significantly to the team’s efforts.”
Danijela Džaković has every intention of remaining in her role.
I am staying put, I have a contract, and I am truly enjoying my time in Azerbaijan.
