Border Police Sector officers, alongside Customs Administration officials, seized a significant amount of textile goods and cash while working to detect, prevent, and combat cross-border crime. They arrested one individual and prosecuted another during planned checks. In separate operations, border police discovered hashish and apprehended an additional suspect.
“Members of the Regional Border Police Center ‘Centar’ – Border Police Station in Nikšić, working in coordination with Customs officers, acted on operational intelligence on the Nikšić-Podgorica main road in Straševina. They conducted a targeted check on a 46-year-old man, ZB, who was driving a cargo vehicle with a trailer registered in Podgorica, owned by a private transport company. Upon thorough inspection, officials found that in addition to the items listed in the customs documents, the trailer held 830 textile products valued at approximately 4,770 euros,” the Police Administration reported.
The seized items were taken by Customs for further investigation. The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić was notified of the incident. Following instructions, ZB was arrested on suspicion of smuggling.
At the Šćepan Polje border crossing, police checked a 31-year-old NK, who was driving a vehicle with Podgorica plates, along with a passenger, 35-year-old AD from Podgorica.
“A detailed inspection of the individuals and their vehicle uncovered three envelopes containing a total of 15,182 euros, which were turned over to Customs for further action. The suspects are believed to be transferring this money for an authoritative figure in a legal entity from Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The state prosecutor was informed and concluded that the incident did not meet the elements of a criminal offense,” the statement indicated.
Customs officials issued a misdemeanor warrant to AD for violating Customs laws.
“In a separate operation, members of the Regional Border Police Center ‘South’ – Border Police Station in Ulcinj conducted checks on VK (22), an Italian citizen, at the Sukobin border crossing while entering Montenegro. Using a narcotics detection dog, officials found two PVC packages containing plant material suspected to be hashish, along with one handmade cigarette in his bag,” the police reported.
The Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica was informed about the incident and determined that the actions did not amount to a criminal act. Police arrested VK for a misdemeanor under Article 52 of the Law on Preventing Drug Abuse.
“Border Police Sector officers, in conjunction with Customs Administration officials, continue to engage in intensive operational activities aimed at detecting, suppressing, and preventing all forms of cross-border crime to enhance state border security, safeguard citizens, and ensure the safe and unhindered movement of people and goods,” the statement concluded.
