Buducnost is gearing up for its match against Odense, with defense being the crucial factor for success, according to the coach of the Podgorica handball team, Bojana Popović.

The encounter will take place on Saturday during the 12th round of Group B in the Champions League.

Popović noted that the Podgorica team has an opportunity to advance to the round of 16, adding that this serves as extra motivation for their duel with Odense.

“When something significant is at stake, it becomes more engaging, and the desire to win increases. I trust the girls will reflect this on Saturday. We’ve taken the time to analyze our opponents thoroughly. We must anticipate their every move and counteract their formidable attack. Their three defenders maintain a constant presence, emphasizing a style with more shots from within six meters, indicating minimal waste,” stated Bojana.

She highlighted the necessity for the defense to remain concentrated during all situations.

“The crux lies in our defensive strategies, as they capitalize on technical mistakes more effectively than Győr does, and we must ensure our attack is well-organized. We gained valuable experience from our first match, so we’re better prepared for this upcoming game.”

Currently, Odense ranks third as they prepare for the away game in Podgorica, having achieved eight wins and three losses. They narrowly won the first encounter by a score of 31:29.

Buducnost’s record in the competition thus far includes one win, one draw, and nine losses. With three matches left in the group stage, the Podgorica handball team trails the Romanian Rapid by two points, a direct competitor in the race for a spot in the round of 16, which will conclude with a match against Podgorica in the final round. The match on Saturday at the “Morača” hall will commence at 6 p.m.

This match will also serve a humanitarian purpose — donation boxes will be placed at all hall entrances to support the treatment of Mia Popović, a young girl battling a malignant pelvic tumor.
