DPM Ivanović Engages with MEP and Shadow Rapporteur for Montenegro Reinhold Lopatka
Today in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović held a meeting with Member of the European Parliament and Shadow Rapporteur for Montenegro Reinhold Lopatka.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović reiterated Montenegro’s aspiration to become the next member state of the EU, expressing appreciation for MEP Lopatka’s advocacy and underscoring the significance of his extensive political knowledge and ongoing dedication to Montenegro’s EU integration.
MEP Lopatka pointed out that the European People’s Party (EPP), of which he is a part, has long been a robust supporter of the enlargement process and Montenegro’s European journey, and this support will persist. He emphasized the necessity of obtaining the endorsement of all EU member states to assist Montenegro in achieving its realistic goals, mentioning that this development already sends a positive message to the entire region.
The two officials also examined the current political landscape in Montenegro, focusing on the pivotal role of Parliament in the EU integration journey. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović highlighted the Government’s unwavering commitment to resolving all significant societal and integration challenges via inclusive dialogue and goodwill. Both officials concurred that institutional stability and the effective operation of the legislative branch are vital for making further advancements in the final stages of EU accession.
