Svetozar Marović, the former president of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and a prominent member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), was spotted in Vračar, Belgrade, during H1 transmissions.
He has been on a wanted list internationally for several years, issued by Montenegro.
In 2016, Marović was found guilty of corruption in Montenegro after confessing to leading a criminal organization that inflicted millions of euros in losses to the Municipality of Budva.
As part of a plea agreement with the prosecution, he received a prison sentence but fled the country prior to serving it and has been living in Serbia ever since.
The statute of limitations for Marović’s sentence, which totals three years and nine months in prison, will lapse in October 2026.
Despite repeated extradition requests from Montenegro, Serbian authorities have yet to act. It appears that, even with an international arrest warrant, Marović is able to move freely in Belgrade, as reported by N1.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has previously stated to “Vijesti” that the decision regarding Marović’s extradition rests with Serbia’s judicial authorities, rather than with the president.
The Montenegrin Ministry of Justice has attempted to secure Marović’s extradition seven times recently, but these efforts have not succeeded.
