The week-long boycott of the Konzum retail chain commenced today in Croatia, following a survey conducted by the Halo Inspectors platform via its Facebook page on February 5th.

As decided by consumers, Konzum is the first retail chain to face a one-week boycott, starting today and lasting until Friday, as reported by SEEbiz.

The poll gathered 211,640 votes from 144,730 voters. Out of these, 31.7 percent supported the boycott of Konzum, while Plodine received 29.1 percent and Studenac garnered 6.87 percent.

In addition to the boycott, this Friday marks the third consecutive week where citizens are invited to refrain from all payment methods.

Additionally, on Friday, the Government’s Decision on Direct Price Control Measures for certain products came into effect. This decision has established a list of 70 products with price limits, aimed to protect citizens from escalating store prices.

The prior list, which was enacted in September 2023, comprised 30 products; the updated list adds 40 new items. Merchants must offer at least one item from each category at the highest dictated price. When an item is sold out, they must replace it with another at a controlled price.

To ensure timely information for consumers regarding product prices under this decision, retailers must display a visible identification mark alongside the retail price, ensuring clarity and legibility.

Retailers are also required to prominently display a poster at the entrance or other visible locations in the store, as well as on their websites, if available. This poster should contain a minimum identification mark and a list of selected items from each category, along with their retail prices.
