Today, several hundred students and citizens of Niš gathered at the “Niš-sever” toll gate on the Niš-Belgrade highway around 1 PM.

Prior to that, attendees converged at Belevar Nikola Tesla and Boulevard 12. February to observe a fifteen-minute moment of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the canopy collapse incident in Novi Sad.

The students have declared their intention to maintain the toll blockade until 9 PM, although there is a possibility that it may be extended by an additional three hours, contingent on a vote at a citizens’ plenum scheduled for later today.

Arriving fully prepared for a lengthy protest, the Niš university students set up tents and seating mats at the toll plaza, along with provisions of food, juice, and water.

This toll ramp blockade and protest has been organized under the slogan “It’s time to pay the toll.”
