Montenegro has clinched its second medal at the EUBC European Junior Championships in Novi Pazar. Following Strahinja Mrdak’s achievement, Nikola Raičević also triumphed, overcoming Azerbaijan’s Ali Aliyev in the quarterfinals of the 48 kg category.
The boxer from BK Nikšić secured a medal by advancing to the semifinals, and his impressive performance against Aliyev was rewarded with a unanimous decision.
“I am incredibly proud of Nikola and the entire team that contributed to this success. Reaching the semifinals of the European Championship amidst such fierce competition is a monumental achievement, making this medal particularly meaningful. It represents the culmination of his outstanding effort, discipline, and fighting spirit. He exhibited heart, discipline, and resilience in the ring, along with a maturity that surpasses his age,” remarked Raičević’s coach Boško Drašković.
“I take pride in how he represented our country—courageously, resolutely, and with integrity. This is a significant milestone in his career, but we believe he can achieve even more. We are progressing step by step, remaining focused on the next match,” commented Drašković, who is currently in Novi Pazar with coaches Slavko Mrdak and Sergej Kudravcjov.
Nikola Raičević’s opponent in the semifinals will be Russian Matber Zaitsev, who also secured a victory over Belarusian Vladislav Zhardetskiy in the other quarterfinal by decision.
