The Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Šaranović, has signed a decision to implement a video surveillance system across Herceg Novi, marking a significant step toward enhancing public safety.

Šaranović revealed that he approved the establishment of this system in the Royal Capital 15 days ago, emphasizing a strong and strategic commitment to improving security infrastructure throughout Montenegro.

He asserted that the inclusion of video surveillance in public spaces is one of the most advanced and effective tools for safeguarding both citizens and their property.

“This system enhances the ability of police officers to respond quickly and accurately, while also providing a strong deterrent against criminal activities and disturbances to public order and peace,” the statement notes.

Šaranović indicated that the decision stems from comprehensive and professional efforts by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which, in collaboration with local communities and relevant institutions, pinpointed 100 critical locations for implementing video surveillance.

The Minister reiterated their commitment to developing a modern, responsible, and preventive security framework.

“Herceg Novi, being a municipality of strategic importance for both tourism and as a border area, requires robust institutional support to maintain security and stability,” Šaranović stated.

He added that this initiative is vital for fostering a safer social environment.

Šaranović stressed that during the deployment of video surveillance, significant emphasis will be placed on safeguarding human rights and personal data.

“The entire system will adhere strictly to the Personal Data Protection Law and the highest international standards concerning privacy and technical security, with ongoing collaboration with the Data Protection Agency and other relevant bodies,” the statement mentioned.

According to Šaranović, ensuring citizen safety is a non-negotiable priority.

“We will continue to implement video surveillance systems in additional municipalities,” Šaranović confirmed.
