Municipal Inspection Targets Illegal Activities Despite Existing Ban

The residents of Markovići, located above Budva, have urged the municipal Communal Inspection to prohibit illegal construction activities in their area. These works are occurring despite an ongoing ban on construction that has been in place across the Budva municipality since June 15th.

“On behalf of the Markovići Local Community, we wish to inform the public about the ongoing illegal construction on undeveloped land in our settlement, which is situated just four kilometers from Budva, a tourism hub. This is occurring during the construction ban that starts on June 15 in Zone II of the Budva Municipality. Despite numerous complaints submitted to various inspections—most directed to the Budva Municipal Inspection—the investor, identified as DO, continues with the construction of the facility starting at five in the morning, thereby disturbing public order and peace for both local residents and tourists who flock to our settlement seeking tranquility,” states a letter from the Markovići Local Community (MZ) sent to the Vijesti editorial office.

They aim to raise awareness regarding the challenges they are currently facing.

“We appeal to any institutions capable of halting this unchecked behavior and misconduct of individuals, since the appropriate Municipal Inspection of the Municipality of Budva appears either unable or unwilling to act. As members of the Markovići Local Community Council, we feel compelled to distance ourselves from this specific instance due to ongoing pressure from locals questioning our inaction. We emphasize that we have no issues with construction in our area; indeed, each new building enhances the beauty and value of our community. However, there are designated times for such work that we should all adhere to, and there are established norms that all locals observe. We believe that incidents like these project a negative image to tourists and simultaneously encourage future unauthorized builders to operate at will,” the letter signed by the Markovići Local Community Council concludes.
