This marks the third consecutive appearance and the fifth overall for the Montenegrin national basketball team at the European Championship.
Last night, our team faced a tough loss in Stockholm against Sweden (86:83) after overtime, finishing second in Group D behind world champions Germany and ahead of both Bulgaria and the Scandinavian team.
This accomplishment enables Boško Radović’s squad to remain in contention for major tournaments, having only missed the European Championship in 2015.
“It’s a loss that doesn’t leave a bitter taste. We’ve qualified for Eurobasket, which is a significant achievement for Montenegrin basketball. I can’t recall the last major competition we skipped, so there’s a lot to celebrate. It’s a significant success that we’ll fully appreciate in the coming years, especially given the varying lineups we’ve had in each window. Players have come from different clubs and systems. I want to congratulate everyone involved for this achievement and I look forward to enjoying Eurobasket this summer,” remarked national team player Petar Popović, who was absent during the November cycle and matches against Bulgaria.
Dino Radončić participated in every qualifier for the upcoming EuroBasket.
“We are all thrilled about qualifying for our third consecutive European Championship and my third as well. Building a team and securing qualification is no easy task, but we truly deserve to be there. The most important outcome is that we’ve secured our spot for Eurobasket. It was reassuring for everyone to see Germany win. Again, we are really happy, and that says it all,” expressed Radončić.
EuroBasket will take place from August 27th to September 14th in Latvia, Finland, Poland, and Cyprus.
