Time to Take the Next Step in Your Career

Buducnost decisively secured the title, proving themselves as the top team in the domestic league this season. Alongside the club from Podgorica and the Cup winner (either Dečić AdmiralBet or Mornar), the players from Petrovac can proudly claim a commendable campaign.

While the championship race was non-existent, so too was the battle for second place in the MeridianBet First League. The Petrovac team rendered that competition insignificant, accumulating 35 points over 60 rounds—ten points ahead of Sutjeska and 13 more than last year’s champions, Dečić…

Among those who maintained the high standard of the team is Zdravko Dragićević, with Marko Šimun, a midfielder set to turn 24 soon. Šimun joined the “Mitar-Mićo Goliš” stadium from Jezera last summer and rapidly became a key player, perhaps even the most essential.

– I believe all of us in Petrovac can feel pleased about the season. If someone had offered us second place at the start of the season ten months ago, we would have eagerly accepted. We may have exceeded expectations, but we can confidently say we played very good football that yielded results – Šimun shared with “Vijesti”.

Petrovac may not have contended for the championship, but they certainly aimed for success in the Cup.

– It was unrealistic to threaten Buducnost, as they are clearly the strongest team in the league. The Podgorica team faced an unexpected exit in the Cup. We regret not going all the way; I truly believe we could have. In that semi-final match against Dečić, the outcome might have been different—we had the advantage in the second leg and created several chances. We played well, but we fell short – says Šimun, who scored in the second leg that ended in a draw (2:2) in Tuzi.

Petrovac concludes their season this weekend, likely marking Šimun’s final appearance in the blue jersey.

– There was a possibility that if we qualified for Europe, I would stay and play those matches, but it seems increasingly unlikely that Petrovac will obtain a license for international competition, so that won’t happen – explains Šimun, adding:

– I feel it’s time for me to advance in my career and move beyond Montenegrin football. I believe I’ve demonstrated my capabilities here and deserve to compete in a stronger league. We’ll see what unfolds – said Šimun.

Currently, both Čukaricki and Sarajevo have expressed interest in Šimun, along with speculation surrounding a potential target from Partizan, where he previously played in the youth teams.

– Everyone knows my ambition to eventually don the black and white jersey once again. I was at Partizan, and I hope the opportunity arises for me to return to Humska, but it’s premature to discuss that now. In the near future, I will decide what’s best for my career – Šimun stated clearly.

Only one more match remains before he bids farewell to Petrovac, facing Mornar on Saturday, a team in need of points to avoid relegation.

– Regardless of what Mornar requires, our sole focus is on winning. It would be great to conclude the season in the same manner as we have been performing, and we will do our utmost to finish with three points – concluded Šimun, who has netted four goals in the league and two in the Cup this season.
