The Energy Remains Constant: The Goal is the World Cup

After years of contributing to Montenegro’s victories with her goals and defense, she has rightfully earned the captain’s armband.

Đurđina Jauković has been appointed as the new captain of our national handball team and will lead the “lionesses” for the first time in April during the matches against Portugal in the World Championship play-offs.

“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be named captain – I am thankful to the coaching staff for their confidence in me,” said Đina during preparations in EHF Week.

The second captain will be Tatjana Brnović, who has also emerged as a leader on the national team.

“Tanja and I will do our utmost to meet their expectations,” Jauković added.

The “Lionesses” are embarking on new challenges without Milena Raičević, Marina Rajčić, and Jelena Radivojević, who have retired from the national team, and Itana Grbić, who hasn’t yet decided if she will continue wearing the national jersey.

“New players are getting the opportunity; it’s unfortunate and saddening that Itana is not here. This is my first gathering without her, and she will surely enjoy her break. This is a chance for younger players, and they will receive our full support. I hope they take full advantage of this opportunity,” emphasized Đurđina.

The “Lionesses” will compete in the first play-off match on April 9th in Portugal, with the return match scheduled for three days later in Podgorica.

“Portugal performed well in the last championship; we should not underestimate them – we need to approach this play-off with the utmost seriousness. We lack any control matches this week, but we are training with the Lovćen handball players to prepare ourselves adequately,” concluded Jauković.

As in many occasions before, Tatjana Brnović will be crucial for Montenegro in the play-offs.

“This is our first gathering since the European Championship, but the energy remains high despite the new faces. Our goal is unequivocally the same – to qualify for the World Championship,” Tanja asserts.

She discusses their rival on the journey to the World Cup.

“We cannot allow Portugal to feel comfortable against us, as they are a strong team that plays fast-paced handball. They can pose significant challenges, but with the right mindset and execution, we will definitely take center stage,” concluded Tatjana Brnović.
